Guere

The Guere ethnic group, also known as Wè, is an ethnic group from West Africa, mainly present in Ivory Coast and Liberia. The Guere are known for their art, especially their masks and wood sculptures.

The art of the Guere is marked by the use of masks that represent spirits and ancestors. The masks are used in ritual ceremonies to communicate with the spirits and honor the ancestors. The Guere are also known for their wood sculptures, which often depict human or animal figures.

 

The Guere have historically faced conflicts with other ethnic groups in the region, especially the Dan and Baoulé. However, these conflicts have eased over time, and the Guere have managed to maintain their distinct culture and identity.
