Analysis and symbolism

Akua’ba dolls are traditionally used by Ashanti women in fertility rituals. They symbolize beauty, motherhood, and protection of unborn children.

Each Akua’ba features a stylized circular head, half-closed eyes, and incised coiffure. Beads and cowries reinforce their symbolic power related to fertility and prosperity.

This contemporary piece is inspired by an ancestral ritual art form.
